4 out of 5 stars Great UFO series installment   October 25, 2008
This is, in my opinion, the best game in the UFO series. Aftershock doesn't feature the bases, and Afterlight doesn't have the, well... Earth stuff. For me, the actual weapons are a must. That's part of the enjoyment, like playing the Fallout games - real stuff in a surreal environment.

The Gameplay is good, especially if you like to move the men tactically, out of real-time. Having the option to go to real-time in a way that actually works is nice (i.e. in Fallout Tactics, most of the time the rt combat will get you killed.)

The graphics are what they are. The sound is never something I can really comment on, since I turn it off and listen to music. It gets a bit buggy if you have other stuff running in the background, so keep it to music, or find another game to play when your torrents are active.

I give it a 9 out of 10.

4 out of 5 stars A good X-COM surrogate   July 21, 2008
It may not be X-COM, but its not too far from it. For the first game in this series, it has good gameplay and tactics, although the enemies seem not to miss too much, to the dismay of any starting players

4 out of 5 stars A classic   February 6, 2008
for what it is it can be a fun game, lack of imaginathion for the aliens, but mutated animals and stuff is a nice, and a lot of fun and great weapons. nothing like takeing out a alien base with a bunch of AK47's. i must admit thou with out the patches the game can get impossibule the patches fixes some of the damage bugs and unbeatabule missions (starting in a forest and have no way to move) also the patches makes the humen wepons more damageing to the aliens so if you have a hard time at the Russian base mission it will be easyer. if it were not for thoes fixes the patches made i would have rated a 2 or a 3. i love the air combat it is like watching a movie how ever until you reserch better craft armor and stuff you will lose 90% of them. i also like how it has a LOT of wepons to pick from, you think you have it all then boom you have 10 new type of guns, how ever i wish it would alow you to manufactuer your own ammo cause you always run out for the good guns. the other down side is you can only build 1 thing at a time, soo if you wan to outfit your whole team with bio armor it will take forever. but over all it takes some tactics to play and can be fun to play. i say get it it is some what worth it but make sure you download all the patches as well cause it will make the game a lil better

don't buy this , buggy , you spend more time loading the game and crashing it than completing a level, soo many buggy pc games out there

cheers good luck! if you buy it

4 out of 5 stars So far, so Ok   April 7, 2006

I love the game and find myself wanting to play it all the time. I too had a lot of trouble with it early on but once I downloaded the 1.4 patch it's been working great. As some have already mentioned, the difficulty of killing aliens is all over the map. Some practically fall over dead when you look at them while others seem nearly impossible to defeat. I've found that carrying both a rifle and a shotgun has helped my team get through multiple situations. Anyhow, I've loved the game so far, I just hope I don't have the same trouble that so many others have, getting all the way to the end only to be shut down.
